Organic Bread Bar in Paddington

Turning a garage into a bakery & cafe? That was the challenge our friend confronted us with.
The concept was to keep the layout open-plan and not have a structural separation between the bakery and the cafe. Instead these areas are separated only by a step up in the floor. Glazed timber framed bi-fold doors replace the garage roller door to allow natural light into the space and create a semi-outdoor seating area. The entry lobby for the upper floors was turned into a small shop that features new timber bi-fold windows towards the street and a sales counter facing the seating area.
The result is a functional bakery and a relaxed atmosphere cafe where both sides benefit from the open-plan layout – costumers can watch the baker kneading the dough while enjoying the fresh products and the bakers can see whats going on in the cafe & look out to the street.
