Apartment in Camperdown

Located in a six-storey former factory building in Camperdown the existing apartment interior was stripped down to the bare outer concrete walls, floor and ceiling. Working closely with the clients , the challenge was to create a new home with two bedrooms plus study and guestroom with a modern visually spacious and light-filled layout within the limited space.
Light could only be attracted from the narrow north-westerly facade. The old partly solid facade was replaced by a fully double glazed facade that allows to draw daylight deep inside the living space. Bathrooms have been located at the darker rear end of the apartment. The design features a double height living/dining space that can be overlooked from the study gallery as well as the master bedroom.
Due to the elongated shape of the apartment it was unavoidable to have internal bedrooms without windows to the outside. The design of these spaces features internal windows towards the staircase, glazed sliding doors and indirect lighting to achieve a spacious feel and imitate daylight. All joinery design has been cleverly integrated to maximise opportunities for storage space.
