Stanmore house -1

A lightweight structure first floor addition has been added to this existing semi-detached house to provide space for a growing family. The challenge was to retain the original stucco ceilings in the two downstairs rooms while taking out walls and modifying the structure to carry the upper floor. The ground floor has been opened up to create an open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area opening out to the courtyard. The laundry is neatly tucked away under the stairs, which sits in a double height void along with the dining table. Filtered light enters this space through a large new window with external louvres facing the courtyard.
The first floor addition accommodates the master bedroom with ensuite and a study / guest room overlooking the dining area through an internal window.
The roof form has been designed as a single pitched roof , keeping in mind that the neighbours might build up soon as well.
